A family member of mine was in the hospital for 9 days recently

A wide-eyed man with a moustache holds red pens between towering stacks of books under the words 'Power of SOPS'.

I noticed that the nurses spent a lot of time writing things down about the patients. Sometimes they were late with injections and other tasks because of this.

At first, I wondered 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡.

But then, when the doctor visited, he used those notes to decide on the next day's treatment.

After the discharge, we received a big stack of documents from the hospital's notes to give to the insurance company. So yeah, those SOPs are important.

This is similar to retail businesses. When you see some big successful retailers following some long processes, you may also wonder 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬.

Well, without them, they could face problems like running out of stock or having long lines at the checkout 😱, which hurts sales.

Sam Walton learned a ton by visiting nearby successful stores.

How about you?
